R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum is celebrating Pioneer Day on Sunday, July 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Enjoy games, a pie eating contest, wagon rides, pioneer demonstrations, musical entertainment, and more. Gate admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children ages five to 13 and children under four are free. The outdoor kitchen will be serving a pioneer pancake breakfast for $6 and a BBQ lunch with all the fixings from $5.50. Popcorn and ice cream will also be available. Marjorie’s Tea Room will be serving a lunch special for $7.99.
Performing this year is local country duo Vicki and John. They will have you singing along and tapping your toes to your favourite old time country songs. Salmon Arm’s own, gospel country singer-songwriter Abe Zacharias will also be performing on the stage.
The seventh annual pie eating contest is calling all pie eaters. This crowd cheering competition is sponsored by the Shuswap Pie Company. Registration is free and can be done by calling the Village at 250-832-5243 or on site at the event.
At the kids’ corner children can make a special pioneer craft, colour and have their face painted. Children can also enter the cupcake eating contest and compete for this year’s title and prize.
The whole family will enjoy playing games of chance and skill to win prizes at the old fashioned midway. A pioneer scavenger hunt will take participants all over the village.
Pioneer Day is your last chance to purchase tickets on the hand appliquéd quilt valued at $1,800. Tickets are $2 each and the draw will be at 1:30 p.m. Proceeds will be used to furnish Miss Puff’s Dress Shop and Millinery in the new Montebello Block currently under construction.
Come dressed in your best vintage garb and enter the costume contest. The vintage costume contest is open to all ages for a chance to win a prize.
