Juno nominated jazz artist, Micah Barnes, will be bringing songs from his chart topping “New York Stories” CD to Char’s Landing on Sunday, April 2 from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Barnes’ new show, New York Stories, takes audiences on a musical tour of “the Big Apple” starting uptown at the Apollo Theatre and the Cotton Club and moving midtown to Time Square and Broadway before landing downtown at jazz clubs Birdland and The Blue Note in The Village.
The Canadian Jazz crooner will be performing classic songs from legendary New York songwriters like Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Carole King and Burt Bacharach, as well as songs from Barnes’ critically acclaimed disc, New York Stories.
Barnes has been a treasured voice on the Canadian music scene for decades, and is a former member of the A Cappella group The Nylons. Barnes’ latest C.D. New York Stories is a romantic collection of original songs inspired by New York City, rich musical history, as well as the artist’s own romance in “The City that Never Sleeps”.
Having cut his teeth in the cabarets and jazz clubs of Toronto while still a teenager Barnes became a well-loved singer songwriter on the Queen Street scene before joining The Nylons and touring the world. Recording with the A Capella pop act brought Barnes into the global music scene and landed him in Venice Beach, California where he launched a solo career touring the U.S. which led to his number one international club hit “Welcome To My Head” and coverage in Rolling Stone Magazine as “an Indie artist to watch.” His latest album, New York Stories, shot to the top of the Jazz charts in both Canada and the USA and resulted in Barnes being named the Toronto Indie Awards best Jazz Act of 2014.
