Kal band gets ready for Disney

Kalamalka Secondary School bands celebrate wins at recent music festivals and get ready to head off to Disneyland to perform.

The Kalamalka Secondary Senior Concert Band recently came home with gold from the Okanagan Concert Band Festival held in Penticton March 4.

“Besides receiving an invitation to the nationals, one adjudicator commented that Kal was the best band in the festival,” said band leader and Kal music teacher Brian McMahon.

The awards have continued as the Kal Junior Jazz Band won first in its category at the B.C. Interior Jazz Festival April 10 in Kelowna.

“The big reward for all of the hard work for many of these students will come to fruition very soon when the Kal DisneyBand flies to perform three times at Disneyland in California,” said McMahon.

The public is invited to hear the Kal DisneyBand perform Tuesday, April 22 at Kalamalka Secondary as they play their pre-trip concert at 7 p.m.

The school is located at 7900 McClounie Rd., Coldstream. Call 250- 545-1396 (ext: 1106) for more information.
