The Canadian Mental Health Association Kelowna Branch (CMHA) is hosting an evening of art and community on Friday Oct. 14, as they celebrate the accomplishments of ArtWorks Studio participants with an Artists Among Us art gala, a celebration of recovery and wellness for people who have experience living with mental health concerns.
This year’s gala theme is Vibrant Expressions: An Exploration of Mental Wellbeing Through Colour.
“It is our hope that visitors to the exhibit will be challenged in their assumptions about people with mental health issues, helping to remove the stigma and pave the path toward a more mentally healthy community,” stated the CMHA in a press release.
Doors open at 5:00pm with a short program, which includes a personal story of an artist, and a celebratory toast at 5:30pm.
“Our annual art gala and exhibition provides one of those rare opportunities where we are able to promote wellness and health and look at creativity as an avenue to support one’s mental health and recovery,” said Shelagh Turner, Executive Director CMHA Kelowna.
MNP is the presenting sponsor of the Canadian Mental Health Association’s ArtWorks Wellness Program.
“With one in three Canadians suffering from mental health issues, we are all affected by its impact,” said MNP Partner Karen Christiansen, FCPA, FCA. “We are proud to support the ArtWorks Wellness program which provides a safe, welcoming and creative environment in which participants can improve their mental health and increase their connection to our community.”
