Kelowna Summer Theatre Festival

Donors and volunteers needed to help make it all happen.

Kelowna Summer Theatre Festival presents two plays this summer.

The plays

Both shows are chosen for this summer’s three week festival on the outdoor stage at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. The first show is Golf: The Musical, a lively review–style show that will have its western Canadian premiere in Kelowna this summer.

Called a “delightfully silly surprise” by the New York Times, the show prompted reviewer David Richardson to rave “whether or not you play golf, you are going to love this show” and “probably the best entertainment around”.

Book, music and lyrics for GOLF: The Musical are by Michael Roberts, based on a concept by producer Eric Krebs.

Golf: The Musical opens on July 19 and continues July 20, 22, 25, 27, 29, August 1, 3, 5, 9, 11.

KSTF’s second show, Fortune’s Fools was first produced Off Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre. Written by Frederick Stroppel, the play takes aim at modern adult relationships. It’s a play about two couples, the first about to be married and the second intensely wary of committing to marriage. The result is a rocky road to romance for all involved. The New York Post praised the show’s playwright as one who “knows how to create immensely likable characters…a fun play indeed.” Fortune’s Fools opens on July 26 and continues July 28, August 2, 4, 8, 10, and 12. Tickets go on sale on June 1 at Select Your Tickets outlets.

Donors

We are launching a membership and donor drive between now and the start of the season on July 19. We’d like to encourage you to become members and stay in touch with the new theatre company. If you’d care to make a larger contribution, the various levels are outlined on the attached donor form pdf.

Volunteers

We are in need of some volunteers and help in a few areas.

•billets for our out-of-town artists. There are four young artists (3 actors and a stage manager) who need a place to live between June 26 and August 12. If you have any space in your home, a guest house, an RV or some other space that you could donate or rent for a reasonable price, please contact Hazel at 250-808-6166 or email info@kelownasummertheatrefestival.com.

•social media volunteer to help coordinate facebook, twitter and other information.

•builders, sewers and front of house people during the run of the shows themselves.
