Kicking off Christmas in Surrey

The city's annual Tree Lighting Festival takes place Saturday, with entertainment and family activities throughout the day.

The City of Surrey’s 6th-annual Tree Lighting Festival takes place Saturday.

The all-day event is free and includes music and other entertainment, culminating in the lighting of the city’s 55-foot-tall Christmas tree.

Back by popular demand are Frozen’s famous sisters, Anna and Elsa. And musical entertainment will include festive favourites from the “Holiday Tribute Trio”, featuring The Beatles, Elvis and Michael Bublé tribute acts.

There will also be a Letters to Santa Station, ferris wheel, igloo, life-sized snow globe, road hockey, ice-carving, Christmas artisans, food trucks, plus photos with Santa inside Central City Mall.

The Surrey Food Bank will be on site collecting non-perishable food items, and Surrey Fire Fighters will be collecting new toys for Surrey’s Christmas Bureau.

“The Tree Lighting Festival has become a wonderful Surrey tradition for opening the Christmas season,” said Mayor Linda Hepner, who is scheduled to light the tree at 6:45 p.m.

The event, presented by Coast Capital Savings, takes place from noon to 7 p.m. at City Hall Plaza, 13450 104 Ave.
