Live Kicks is preparing for its first show of the season which will bring a multiple Juno Award winner and Grammy nominated artist to Golden on Nov. 6.
Singer-songwriter Alex Cuba hails from Artemisa, Cuba, but now resides in Smithers, B.C.
It is the mix of culture which has helped develop his unique sound over the years.
“Part of it comes from Cuba. Latin music is big in Canada. I have to go beyond the language. I fully understand and have taken in the Canadian lifestyle. people have a good time and everything comes across that way,” he said.
As a young child Cuba was taught how to play the guitar by his father who was a professional musician. It was during this time his passion for music and performing started. Revealing his bass player past, Alex picks, plucks, strums and rocks his Gibson ES355, equipped with the heaviest guage steel strings available, without a pick.
Critical to his success has been constant touring with a live show that has been described as explosive.
“People enjoy the sound of my voice. This makes me feel happy. I like the interaction a lot.”
Alex Cuba performs as a trio with Alex on vocals, electric and acoustic guitars, electric bass and drums.
“A show is a moment of celebration where anything could happen. They are always memorable nights,” Cuba said.
The tour which will bring Cuba to Golden is part of 17 shows which will take the performer from Winnipeg to Vancouver. Some of the songs which are part of the set will be from an upcoming CD which will be released in 2012.
“So far the new music has received a positive response,” Cuba said.
