The Kelowna Kiwanis Festival is gearing up for its 91st anniversary as it celebrates Canada 150 with new awards, scholarships, festival disciplines, and a new website (kelownakiwanisfestival.com).
Registration is now open, and the 2017 syllabus is available online. Interested performers are welcome to look over the calendar of events and disciplines, including the brand new popular voice festival set for April 9 at the Mary Irwin Theatre.
In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the festival has created special scholarships and awards for all disciplines and age categories/classes, where performers celebrate Canadian identity/heritage through speech, dance and music.
Also new this year is the festival community connection.
“This is a new service that we are offering for the community and our performers where we bring them together for real gigs and other performance opportunities,” said festival executive director Marv Machura.
The Kelowna Kiwanis Festival starts with dance, which has been expanded to six days (March 3-8). The rest of the festival runs until May 7, with more than 27 days of celebrating Canada 150 in all the other disciplines.
