From Classical and Latin to Jazz and other popular styles, Ensemble Vivant brings its mix of classical, latin and jazz music to the Langley Community Music School’s (LCMS) Rose Gellert Hall April 9
The show, From Bach To Piazzolla, starts at 7:30 p.m. The theme of the concert will be the contrapuntal musical form known as fugue.
Ensemble Vivant’s artistic director and pianist Catherine Wilson performs with Corey Gemmell on violin, Norman Hathaway on the viola, Sybil Shanahan on cello and Jim Vivian on double bass.

After the submission deadline, FVMA Jurors will evaluate to determine the 2016 FVMA Nominees, and the FVMA Compilation Album, as well as #FVMABattle of the Bands lineup will be determined. A nomination ceremony and press conference will announce the final list of nominees in late April, and the main event takes place July 16 in Abbotsford.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) fashion student Kaitlyn Schreiner is one of 36 designers showcasing their collections in B.C.’s biggest student fashion show, happening next week in downtown Vancouver.
The Langley resident, who graduated from Walnut Grove Secondary in 2012, will unveiled her line Hetki/a moment clothing line over five sold-out shows at the Imperial Vancouver on April 6 and 7.
“I’m very excited to reach this point in my career as a design student. This is something I have been working towards since starting high school sewing classes,” said Schreiner.
“It’s very rewarding to go through this four-year program, and to see months and months of hard work, knowledge, creativity and skills produce a finished collection. I’m very proud of the work I will be presenting in my very first fashion show – it showcases years of dedication and passion.”
After graduation, Schreiner has a long list of things she hopes to accomplish, including taking her contemporary line of womenswear to market.
Schreiner developed her collection as part of her final project before graduating from KPU’s four-year fashion design and technology program this May. The program provides students with a rigorous studio-based design education. The final capstone project involves extensive market and design research, and requires students to create garments that meet a perceived market need.
“The inspiration for my final collection came from my experience in Helsinki. The Nordic and Scandinavian countries fascinate me. They are so beautiful, peaceful and slow-paced, and an overall quality of lifestyle is appreciated and valued. I felt these attributes should be considered in the fashion industry,” said Schreiner. “The concept of the collection is to blur the lines between seasonal trends and to create designs that put an emphasis on quality, longevity, timelessness and uniqueness.”
