This weekend is the last chance to see the hilarious and poignant Studio Theatre production of the play Memory of Water. The play is on stage for two more performances tonight, May 20 and Saturday night, May 21.

The play is directed by Michael Rawluk and stars Shawna Sutherland, Kathy MacDonald, Heather Goodall, Tanya Isnardy, Curt Sprickerhoff, and Randy Morgan. Tickets are available at About Face Photography.

There may also be a chance to catch the play again when it is performed during the Central Interior Zone Drama festival, which will be held at the Studio Theatre in the lakecity May 24 to 28 but those tickets usually sell out well in advance.

Memory of Water is on stage for the festival adjudication, Thursday, May 26 at 8 p.m.

Sweet Song Farewell by Roy Teed, by the Kersley Players is on Stage Saturday May 28 at 12 noon.

Rollback by Serious Moonlight Productions of Prince George is on Stage Saturday, May 28 at 8 p.m.

 

Swollen Members play the OV

 

Revitalized and ready to promote their latest album Dagger Mouth, the Juno Award winning hip hop band Swollen Members will be in concert at the OV Pub tonight, Friday, May 20.

From the powerful production of Rob The Viking to the dark poetic abstract expressionism of Mad Child and Prevail, Dagger Mouth is a return to the classic Swollen Members sound by harnessing the group’s savage and chaotic energy into one focused and commanding effort.

 

Drug and alcohol awareness seminar

 

The public is invited to attend a drug and alcohol awareness seminar presented by the Williams Lake RCMP on Wednesday, May 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the City council chambers from 7 to 9 p.m.

Const. Ron Miciuk and Const. Matthew Shearer will be the presenters for the event which will be hosted by the Cariboo-Chilcotin District Parent Advisory Council.

 

Rural network seminar

 

The BC Rural Network will hold its annual general meeting and workshops at Thompson Rivers University in Williams Lake May 23-25.

The topic for discussion this year is Bridge to the Future: Youth and Rural Community Development.

Some workshop topics include living wage/social return on investment; emerging leaders; food security; building effective and respectful relationships with First Nations; rural business succession planning; linking social media and social connection in rural B.C.; and innovation in the rural arts and culture sector.

Relay for Life

This year, the Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on May 28 and will wrap up at 7a.m. on May 29 at the WLSS track.

It is a day of celebrating, remembering those we’ve lost and fighting back — it is a day of hope.

The Relay For Life begins with the celebrate ceremony, as cancer survivors, whether currently in treatment or long-time recovery, join together and walk the first lap around the track to show their strength in numbers.

 

Bike rodeo

A free bike rodeo will take place in the Canadian Tire parking lot Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sponsored by Tim Horton’s this bike rodeo is a free event which will help to teach children the skills required to ride safely and learn precautions to take to avoid accidents and injuries says Suzanne Cochrane, City recreation programmer.

Registration is at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex by calling 250-398-7665. Participants must bring their own bike and helmet.

 

Contestants ride

The contestants will participate in the horsemanship finals judging on Wednesday, June 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds.

The public is invited to come out and watch the event.
