The Mennonite Heritage Museum in Abbotsford holds launch events for two new books.
The first event takes place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 for the book Silentium by Connie T. Braun.
Braun will read select portions from her recent book, followed by a brief response from Dr. Steven Schroeder, historian and chair of the Peace and Conflict Studies program at the University of the Fraser Valley.
A historical memoir of her mother’s migration story, Braun’s beautiful prose transports the reader from Poland’s Vistula Delta during the Second World War to the Fraser Valley, weaving a narrative that informs and inspires.
The evening will include a time for questions and discussion with the presenters. Books will be available for purchase.
The second launch event is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 for the book Flight by Harold Jantz.
The book covers how Mennonites in 1929 learned what was happening to family and friends in the Soviet Union that year.
The 735-page Flight has translations or summaries of all the items about Mennonites “facing the Soviet empire” that appeared in the weekly Mennonitische Rundschau, during two critical years in the Soviet Union: 1929 and 1930.
