Layle Zoe has been nominated for a Maple Blues Award.

The former Parksville Qualicum Beach resident released a video on Facebook upon finding out about the nomination last week.

“I’m in absolute complete shock right now,” said a choked-up Zoe. “I’m extremely grateful to be nominated for the Maple Blues Awards — it is the biggest blues awards in Canada.”

Zoe goes on to say she has struggled with the nomination process of the awards show over the years but has remained adamant that she would do things her way in the business.

“This just shows that you can stay true to yourself and never kiss ass and still find your way to where you deserve to be.”

But in order to win Female Vocalist of the Year honours, Zoe needs online votes.

The Maple Blues Awards is in its 17 year and is Canada’s national blues awards program.

Nominees are selected by a panel of blues experts including radio hosts, journalists, and festival organizers across Canada.

Voting is open until December 7 and anyone with an email address is eligible to cast one.

Winners are selected by voting blues fans across Canada, except for the instrumental categories, which are decided by the nominating panel.

This year’s winners will be announced at the Annual Maple Blues Awards Gala in Toronto, on Monday, January 20, 2014 hosted by Dawn Tyler Watson & JW Jones. Visit www.mapleblues.ca to cast a vote.
