Members of the Langley Community Music School (LCMS) string faculty and the LCMS ensemble in residence the Rose Gellert String Quartet are launching the school’s 2018-2019 concert season later this month.
The two groups will perform at the first Concerts Café Classico concert, coffee and commentary at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The programme features a couple of movements from some of Mendelssohn’s most beloved chamber music: the D minor Piano Trio and his Cello Sonata in D major. The programme also includes a movement from the tragic ‘Rosamunde’ quartet of Schubert. Other shorter pieces will round out the concert.
The LCMS String Faculty performers include Monica Kobelt (violin), Joel Stobbe (cello), Judy Lou (cello), with Rose Gellert String Quartet members Will Chen (violin), Samuel Tsui (violin), violist Peter Ing (violist), and Ben Goheen (cello). They will also be joined by LCMS Piano Faculty members Monica Kobelt (piano) and Christina Tong (piano), as they collaborate to share some of the gems of the chamber music literature.
All of the performers are highly accomplished musicians in their own right, with many having toured across the world performing with notable orchestras, chamber groups or as soloists.
“LCMS is thrilled to welcome you to another wonderful season filled with a variety of local and international artists and ensembles,” said LCMS Artistic Director Elizabeth Bergmann.
“(Next year) 2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of LCMS. We are proud to be featuring many alumni and artists who have a close relationship with the school, and I invite you to celebrate this milestone with us.”
