Artist James Postill is offering a class called Painting the Masters through the Monashee Arts Council.

Beginning Wednesday, the Monashee Arts Council will be hosting a series of courses entitled Painting the Masters with local artist James Postill.

The course will run on Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, at the Whitevalley Community Hall in Lumby.

Each week will see a different artist explored: Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso.

Students can choose specific artists to study or take the entire series.

Postill says he came up with the idea after a discussion with his wife Judy.

“I was telling her how much a person can learn just by copying good art. She suggested I create a series which focus on well-known masters and during each session, talk a little about each artist and in essence humanize them,” he said.

“It’s a great concept because I remember loving the art history portion of my college training. I was so fascinated by all the artists and was hungry to learn about the individuals behind each picture. These classes will take students one step further, where we will actually be painting a copy of a master’s picture while learning about him.”
