The Langley Ukulele Association (LUA) is offering children in Langley the opportunity to learn to play the ukulele this summer.
Their 11th annual ukulele summer camp returns Aug. 14 to 18 to Langley Fundamental Elementary, 21789 50 Ave.
This program is intended for students entering Langley schools in Grades 4 to 7 as of September, 2017. Spots may also be offered to children entering Grade 3 and 8, or students from Surrey, as space permits.
The camps will be led by qualified professional teachers, including internationally acclaimed ukulele instructor Peter Luongo, Langley’s own Jamie Thomas, and current LUA ensemble directors Paul Luongo and Elizabeth Zielke.
“I’m excited to be able to work with students again and with the other excellent instructors. I know that it will be a lot of fun as well as providing an opportunity for Langley kids to get involved in the Langley program,” said Peter Luongo, president and past director of the LUA. “Current members of the top ensemble started at this camp several years ago and are now performing with the group in Hawaii. I truly believe that this is the best way to get involved in our after school programs.”
The cost of the program is $150 for the five days, including daily snacks, music, a T-shirt and a final concert for the parents on Friday, Aug. 18.
Classes run from 9 a.m. to noon.
Ukuleles are available for use during the camp for a charge of $20, which can be redeemed towards the purchase of that instrument at the end of the camp.
