Mindil Beach Markets are in the thick of things when it comes to gaining a foothold in the B.C. music industry.
The Victoria-based quintet, who by the description of singer-guitarist Daniel Kingsbury are “essentially a rock’n’roll band with strong doses of rock, reggae, folk, funk, hip hop and blues,” play a live show Friday (June 17) in Vancouver as part of the Fox Seeds competiton.
The band has been engaged for the past few months in a campaign to get online votes. They made it into the top 50 out of a few hundred entries, then made the top 20 shortlist after judging by a panel of musical experts.
They’ll play six songs in the showcase at the Roxy Nightclub Friday, hoping to further impress the judges with their live performance. The top three finalists play at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver next month.
