This year’s Big Rigs for Kids lighted truck parade, set for Dec. 6, will roll along University Boulevard and stop in front of City Centre Library from 7 to 8 p.m.
In previous years, the event used Holland Park as a post-parade gathering spot. Late-afternoon activities will be held at City Hall Plaza, including live music, starting at 5:30 p.m.
Also on Dec. 6, the same trucks are part of Surrey’s Santa Parade of Lights, held in downtown Cloverdale from 4 to 7 p.m., with food vendors, music and more.
Truckers spend hours decorating their vehicles for the two parades, both backed by Business Improvement Associations in the two neighbourhoods.
This marks the sixth year for the Big Rigs for Kids parade in Surrey’s downtown area.
Members of the North Surrey Lions Club will be selling hot chocolate and hot dogs, with all proceeds shared by Surrey Christmas Bureau and Surrey Food Bank.
All attendees are encouraged to bring donations “in the spirit of the season.”
In Cloverdale, the Santa Parade of Lights starts at 5 p.m. at the corner of 176A Street and 60th Avenue. From there, the trucks head east to 177B Street by Fraser Downs Racetrack & Casino (soon to be known as Elements Casino) before they roll south to 58th Avenue and turn west into the downtown area of Cloverdale. On the final leg, the parade heads south to Highway 10 and on to the City Centre area of Surrey.
There will also be an entertainment zone at Hawthorne Square with a variety of vendors, all donating proceeds to Surrey Christmas Bureau and Surrey Food Bank.
