Heading into the Festival of All Things Art in Wells next weekend, three-time platinum album singer/songwriter Linda McRae will be giving a concert at the Bear’s Paw Cafe in Wells this coming Thursday evening.
McRae is among more than 100 musical groups lined up for the ArtsWells Festival in Wells on the August long weekend.
She will be introducing her new album Rough Edges and Ragged Hearts at the Bear’s Paw Cafe in Wells Thursday, Aug. 2.
During ArtsWells Festival McRae will also be teaming up with Horsefly’s Pharis Patenaude and Melissa Devost for a performance as Daughters of Blood and Bone.
“Linda (McRae) is a true Canadian icon, and her current immersion in Appalachian Folk Roots, and her collaboration with her partner James Whitmire, immersed in the Nashville music scene, has matured her into an incredible musician,” says Bear’s Paw Cafe owner, Cheryl Macarthy. “Every time she plays at the Paw, (which is now an annual event), we just feel honoured to have her here!”
McRae is a gifted singer/songwriter/musician and holder of three platinum albums, states her biography.
She plays clawhammer banjo, acoustic guitar, accordion and porchboard, combining old-time sounds with universal themes of heartbreak and redemption offering an intriguing sepia postcard from the past that is vibrant and alive in the present.
Although the new album is only a few months old, McRae is already rated as top Canadian Album and song on many Canadian playlists and radio charts, and also in the top 30 on Freeform American Roots Charts and the Tennessee Music Charts.
Last spring, McRae was invited to visit the Folsom Prison for their Johnny Cash Legacy, Arts in Corrections program. She performed and ran such successful workshops that she’s been asked to return next year.
In addition she has recently recorded and performed with luminaries such as Bruce Cockburn, Alehandro Escovedo, Gurf Morlix and Ray Hubbard, at such places as the Carter Family Fold, Hank Williams Museum, England’s Barbican Theatre, and the UK Maverick Festival.
