Seymour has a plant with an unusual appetite – it hungers for human blood.
The man’s life was changed as soon as he took charge of the plant. His tale is told in the play Little Shop of Horrors, presented by the Cedar Community Secondary School’s performing arts department. The production premieres Wednesday (May 29) at Cedar Secondary and runs until Saturday (June 1). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Seymour is played by Owen Murphy and Audrey, Seymour’s love interest, is played by Rachel Scheibel. Kelly Barnum, the school’s director of musical theatre, said she chose the play because it was one she really enjoyed and the department had never done it before.
“It’s an opportunity for quite a few kids to shine,” she said about the production.
Little Shop of Horrors is a major fundraiser for the arts department. Proceeds for the play will help the department purchase equipment for upcoming shows. Barnum said the department is run outside the school timetable and students do it on their own time, but still get credit. However, it doesn’t get school funding to run the program.
Tickets are $12/$10 students and are available at Cedar Secondary School and at the door.
