Live electronic music coming to Forest Grove

ReFresh festival turns community hall into nightclub

Live electronic music in a night club-like setting is coming to an unexpected place on June 24 — the Forest Grove Community Hall.

The ReFresh “All Nite Dance Party” will be featuring live PA music from 6 p.m. on June 24 until 8 a.m. the next morning

“There are very few festivals in B.C. that are like this,” says Steve Roy, producer and Forest Grove-based co-owner of Momentum Productions, who is hosting the event.

“It’s something you won’t see anywhere else.”

Live PA music is the performance of live electronic music, produced on scene, rather than the remixing of songs commonly associated with DJing.

“We’re going to make the Forest Grove Community Hall into a crazy cool nightclub for the night so there will be lots of lasers and special events.

Performers include Kytami, whose instrument of choice is the fiddle; Texture and Light; Lucious Vibes; Jason Hachey, a beatboxer, and many more.

Roy says they’re trying to move away from the scene commonly found at larger raves.

“The refresh button on the computer, that’s basically what it is,” he says. “Basically it’s just to refresh that whole electronic music [genre], to reload the scene”

The event is for all ages, although access to the margarita bar will require ID. Fire Roasted pizza and other goodies will also be available throughout the night.

“We’re trying to make Forest Grove into an artistic hub and the more we say that the more likely it is to happen,” says Roy.

For more information on the line-up, or to buy tickets ahead of time, visit ReFresh’s website at refreshnap.ca. Tickets are $40 and will be available at the door.

Roy encourages anyone who is interested to come out and dress up.

“You never know if you’re going to like stuff until you go,” he says.

“It’s about the dancing, the atmosphere and the music.
