After three decades since acting in his youth in Ontario and West End theatres in London, England, local actor and playwright (When I’m 64) Steve Hill is excited to explore the iconic role of Torvald Helmer in Ibsen’s potent classic A Doll’s House.
Hill feels “daunted but excited” to explore one of the most produced and influential plays of all time. And he’s delighted to collaborate with actress Jennifer Kelly as Helmer’s wife, Nora, one of the best roles ever written for a woman.
Daring, unpredictable and charged with intrigue and intensity, Henrik Ibsen’s most famous play will be forever contemporary. Way ahead of his time, Ibsen, a free thinker, took the world by storm with A Doll’s House.
Nora Helmer’s world seems ideal – beautiful children, elegant home, adoring husband (Hill) – but her life is shot through with lies and delusion. When the truth bursts into the open, Nora is caught in a web of deception, expectations and domestic condemnation.
