Mission author Brain Antonson is looking forward to watching a new television series on the History Channel next week.

The legend of Pitt Lake’s Lost Creek Gold Mine will spring to life when the series Curse of the Frozen Gold tells the tales of modern-day gold seekers searching for the legendary missing mine.

Antonson is co-author of a bestselling book on the legend, which has chalked up more than 10,000 sales, twice the number required for a best seller in Canada.

The novel, Slumach’s Gold: In Search of a Legend, recounts the tale of a Salish man who was hanged for murder in 1891.

A few years later, rumours of a lost gold mine with nuggets the size of walnuts were circulating in the Lower Mainland, rumours that became associated with Slumach’s name.

“We’ve been fascinated by this legend since we were kids” said Antonson. When Toronto’s JV Productions called asking to use the book as part of their planned series, Antonson and co-authors Rick Antonson (brother) and Mary Trainer jumped at the opportunity.

The Antonson brothers spent two days last fall at a location north of Pitt Lake taking part in shooting episodes for the series.

The series hits screens at 10 p.m. on Wednesday August 26.
