Culture Days take place across the province on Sept. 25, 26 and 27, and there will be plenty of events in Abbotsford.
More than 7,500 free events are planned across the province.
The hub for Abbotsford events will be creatiValley, which will run all three days at the Reach Gallery Museum, 32388 Veterans Way. There will be an opening event Friday night, entertainment, exhibits and an art market.
Friday activities run from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday events are from noon to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday events go from noon to 3 p.m.
Kariton Art Gallery at 2387 Ware Street hosts Lit Up in the Gallerty, a tribute to the written and spoken word, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Get Wrapped in Stone with Sculptor Bill Stewart is at the gallery from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday. He will talk on how he persuaded tree roots to grow around river rocks.
For Stewart, a finished piece is a years-long process from planting and growing to drying the wood. A major component of his work takes place during the growth process, when he nurtures the tree’s roots to grow around river rocks, creating more metaphoric possibilities.
On Saturday, those interested can learn to sketch with artist Pat Maertz. The workshop runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To register, go to http://learntosketch.eventbrite.ca
The Art of Improvisation takes place at Clearbrook Library on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
A concert with the Gibson and Gretsch Combo takes place at the House of James, Emerson and South Fraser Way, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
There will also be an open house at the Glass House Studio, at 30273 Canary Court, on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
