A photo of stink bug eggs has earned a Vernon resident recognition in a nationally-run photo contest.
Carol James’ photo earned her a runner-up placing in the up-close category of the 2013 Canadian Wildlife Photography of the Year contest, organized by Canadian Geographic magazine in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Nature.
James shot the photograph, Growth @ a Snail’s Pace, showing pinhead-sized stink-bug eggs nesting on a blade of grass, with a Canon EOS Rebel, using a 90-millimetre lens.
The photo is among other winners in the contest currently being exhibited at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa now until Sept. 1.
“Through our partnerships with esteemed organizations such as Canadian Geographic, we expand our reach to Canadians, providing further insight into the complexity, diversity and wonders of the natural world,” said Meg Beckel, president and CEO of the museum.
“This exhibition is a delightful way for people of all ages to enjoy a window on the beauty and value of wildlife. This inspiration is evident in the range of colours, subjects and situations that caught the keen eye of the photographers.”
Winners, runners-up, and honourable mentions were selected from thousands of entries submitted to Canadian Geographic.
