Courtenay resident Christina Duncan, a graduate of Isfeld Secondary who is studying at McGill University, has been accepted to a one-year exchange at Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts.

She will study under renowned violin professor Dr. Michael Frischenschlager, who developed a critically acclaimed technique method.

In a recent video posted to her YouTube channel, Duncan performed a rendition of Disney’s A Whole New World in Filberg Park in Comox. The video showcases the stunning nature and detailed upkeep of the heritage park paired with the wonder and amazement of the Aladdin tune.

“My father was in the military and when I was 10 we were posted here from Winnipeg. Leaving six feet of snow and coming to this green paradise was truly a whole new world for me,” she explained.

“I love the Comox Valley and I want to share it with the people I meet in Austria. The Valley is a wonderful place to grow up, highly supportive of the arts.”

Duncan’s Courtenay roots began with music lessons at Motif Music Studios, a place with the Strathcona Symphony Orchestra, and a bursary from the Sid Williams Theatre.
