They’ve been making waves in the Kootenays and now some local musicians are back home and ready to make a splash with their new CD.
Consisting of four W.L. Seaton Secondary School graduates, Sound-Splash! has returned to Vernon to release its debut album, Free Yourself, at the Talkin’ Donkey Saturday.
“Locals may remember the popular jam band Strawberry Jam from their frequent dances at the Donkey over the past few summers. Strawberry Jam has morphed into Sound-Splash! with many of the same members,” said Orion Miller, Sound-Splash! guitarist, who with bassist Neil Graham just graduated from Selkirk College’s contemporary music program in Nelson.
Connor Johnston, who is about to enter his second year at Selkirk, and keyboardist Marina Durham, who has studied classical music for many years, round out the band.
Sound-Splash! is touring its new album this summer playing at various venues around B.C., including Vernon’s Komasket Music Festival at the end of July.
“Free Yourself is a funky blend of high energy, get-up-on-the-dance-floor reggae, rock and hip-hop,” said Miller, adding, “The party doubles as a fundraiser to aid the Talkin’ Donkey’s campaign to help victims of human trafficking.”
Sound-Splash’s Free Yourself CD release party happens at the Talkin’ Donkey Saturday at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and cover is $5. Album is $8. More information is at www.soundsplashmusic.com.
