The 30-member Oceanside Concert Band will perform its annual Fall Concert under the direction of Dr. Paul Rathke beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Knox United Church in Parksville.
Rathke has lived in Parksville for the past six years. Prior to moving to the Oceanside area, he was a faculty member of Grande Prairie Regional College in Alberta. He holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, and the University of Kentucky. He is a former member of the United States Army Field Band of Washington, D.C.
Highlights of this weekend’s concert include Sing Sing Sing, featuring drummer Wayne Finucan; Basin St. Blues (featuring some great solos); Fats Waller; a beautiful rendition of A Trumpeter’s Lullaby; and much more.
The popular event is sponsored by the Parksville and District Music Association. Proceeds from the concert are used locally to support musical programs in the Oceanside area.
