Looking back

R. J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum celebrates local history and invites public to bring treasures.

Join R. J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum in celebrating the history of Salmon Arm and area Sunday, July 10.

Experience an old time country fair, celebrate Mt Ida Church’s 100th birthday and find out if some of your old treasures are worth a present-day fortune.

Begin the day with a pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., which is included in the gate fee.

After you’ve dined, explore the historic displays and demonstrations –  kids craft table, pie-eating contest and more.

If you have a possible “treasure” and wonder whether it is a collectable, antique or junk, take it along and let Louise Kneller decide.

Kneller, a certified personal property appraiser and online sales specialist will be on-site from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“My knowledge base is best in antiques, art, and vintage jewelry,” she says. “The prettier an item is, the more I probably know about it, I like pretty things, Victorian, etc.”

Kneller says it is the story surrounding each item that interests her.

“She loves to dig up the dirt following multi-generational items and discover how they move around the world,” says Susan Mackie, visitor services co-ordinator, noting each appraisal will cost $10, with a portion of the fee being donated to  R. J. Haney Heritage Village.

While you’re at the village Saturday, enjoy the musical entertainment provided by The Chris Stevens Family Band and Vicki and the Country Pickers.

Stay for a barbecue lunch and enjoy an ice cream cone.

Admission is $11 for adults, $6 for children aged three to 13 and free for children two years old and under. Admission drops to half price after 11 a.m.
