The McMillan Arts Centre kicks off the New Year with a return engagement from Vancouver-based Reid Jamieson Band in its Folk at the MAC music series Jan. 8.
A regular on CBC/NPR’s Vinyl Cafe, and winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest (folk), Reid has recorded with Sarah Harmer, Samantha Parton (Be Good Tanyas), various members of Blue Rodeo and John Sheard (Celine Dion, Matt Anderson). Reid recently took part in a special ensemble recording called The Kennedy Suite with Cowboy Junkies, which was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize.
Jamieson’s music, described by the Globe and Mail as “gorgeous, sun-struck acoustic soul,” is often presented in accompaniment with his saucy wife and long-time songwriting partner Carolyn Victoria Mill. Together, they present an entertaining duo where harmonies abound.
They have recently released their first record together: Juniper’s Kitchen.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the performance to begin at 7. Tickets are $15.00, $12.00 for OCAC members, and may be purchased in advance at the McMillan Arts Centre, 133 McMillan Street, Parksville, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
