The McMillan Arts Centre of Parksville is excited to host Miles Black, Ken Lister, and James McRae for an afternoon of Sunday jazz in its JAZZ at the MAC series Sunday, Jan. 24.
This group is composed of two locally (mid-Island) based musicians and one from Vancouver. These highly respected individuals come together to offer an experience of high-quality music performance that is sure to be enjoyed by their audiences.
Based in Vancouver, Miles Black is a highly respected career musician bringing an enormous wealth of musical experience and expertise to most every facet of the music industry. Known as one of Canada’s most accomplished jazz pianists, Miles is also highly acclaimed and sought after as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, vocalist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, and musical theatre director. Especially in Vancouver, Miles Black is well known as the “first call’ when musicians are looking for top professional enhancements to their projects.
Lister has been a professional jazz bassist since 1983, winning accolades and Juno awards along the way. He currently performs and teaches in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island and has toured across Canada and internationally to Australia, the British Isles, Cuba and South America. As a member of the Phil Dwyer Orchestra, Ken won a Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year, 2012, and with the Hugh Fraser Quintet, the Juno Award for the Best Mainstream Jazz Album of 1997.
McRae is a drummer, teacher, songwriter and band leader living in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. He has been playing and composing professionally for more than 30 years. He is adept at many styles of music. In 2011 James released a CD of his own music which has received international and national radio airplay.
