The Folk at the MAC music series will offer fans a bonus twinbill this Saturday when roots/folk/pop veteran Lynn Jackson appears with opening act Myc Sharratt.
Jackson, a storytelling singer-songwriter whose voice has been described as “whiskey and honey”, has recorded eight albums, many layering intricate piano and cello arrangements over her songs. In the acoustic venue for the Jan. 30 show in Parksville, however, expect a stripped-down, rootsy retrospective of her career work.
Taking sonic cues from Lucinda Williams, Kathleen Edwards and Eliza Gilkyson, Jackson sings narrative tales of love, loss and everyday people.
Sharratt, a Vancouver Island-based singer-songwriter, also draws on tales of the working man and the dreamer in a tradition compared to Dave Matthews and Bruce Springsteen. He is winner of the Male Vocalist of the Year in the Vancouver Island Music Awards and boasts six nominations.
Sharratt has honed his performing chops with multiple tours of Ireland, the UK, the U.S. and Canada, and recently released his debut album, Cellar Door.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the concert starting at 7. Tickets are $15, or $12 for OCAC members, and may be purchased in advance at The MAC, 133 McMillan Street in Parksville, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
