With a new CD getting air play, and an audition for the TV show The Voice scheduled for August, things are going well for local singer songwriter Alexandria Maillot.
The 19-year-old who grew up in Parksville is making Nanaimo her home this summer while she works on taking her music career to the next level.
Maillot demonstrated why she is becoming a force in the Canadian music scene with a stellar vocal performance at the On the Dock acoustic series at the Dinghy Dock Pub in Nanaimo Tuesday, July 3.
Maillot performed some of her original songs as well as some covers including a spine tingling rendition of Adele’s Someone Like You.
Her new CD Just a Girl is now available on iTunes and Maillot is also a top 20 finalist in the Peak Performance Project which provides funding and mentoring for musicians in British Columbia.
Locals will have an opportunity to hear the musical dynamo when she performs during this summer’s Parksville Beach Festival which runs from July 14 to August 19 down at the Community Park.
The entertainment line-up for the 2012 festival is extensive.
Maillot is performing during week one and two and will be on stage July 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. and July 28, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The entertainment at the gazebo starts Sunday evening, July 15. Singer/songwriter Jayden Holman is on stage from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The QF Canadian Open Sand Sculpting competition and exhibition officially begins Friday with the “pound up”.
That is when the sculptors will build and fill their forms. The actual competition begins Saturday morning and the public can watch outside the gates until 2 p.m.
The gated exhibition opens to the public at 2 p.m. on July14 and will remain open until August 19, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily.
