Marimbas could be heard all around Qualicum Beach this week as the Striking Accord; Building Community through Street Music project took to the streets.
Sylvan Shackleton, member of Jangano Marimba, and Aileen Fabris, who have recently been taking youth-mentored marimba classes in Coombs, made sweet music on the instruments for passersby at lunchtime on Tuesday, offering instruction for those who wanted to try it out.
The free program is being offered through the Arrowsmith Community Enhancement Society and the Town of Qualicum Beach. A closing concert and street dance is taking place Saturday, June 25 at the corner of Second Ave. and Primrose St. in Qualicum Beach beginning at 6:30 p.m.
