Event hosts Judy and Bruce Wing will welcome the Many Waters Band to the 1st Tuesday Fundraiser on March 1 at the Mex Pub.

The monthly concert series is sponsored by Mex owner Roy Tai, and is held on the first Tuesday of each month. Admission is always by cash donation, with the guest performers choosing a local charity to receive the cash donations.

This month the night’s proceeds will support the Comox Valley Boys and Girls Club. Non-perishable food donations are also accepted at the door for the Comox Valley Food Bank and are much appreciated.

The Comox Valley Boys and Girls Club has been offering community programs under the guidance of trained staff and volunteers for more than 15 years. Healthy mentoring relationships are a key component of the organization’s programs. They offer kids between the ages of five and 13 a safe and supportive environment to explore new opportunities that promote a healthy lifestyle, personal growth, and a connection to the community.

Support for parents is also available through educational resources and support groups, childcare services for school-aged children, as well as Pro-D, school break programs and summer day camps.

More information about the organization’s programs is available at  www.cvboysandgirlsclub.ca.

The members of Many Waters Band are singer-songwriter Eric Macdonald, percussionist Christoph Kind, Lorne Antonsen on electric guitar, and Tracy Canil on flute, bass and keys.

Canil’s diverse talents are also expressed in various community projects including musical theatre orchestras, her baroque ensemble Divertimento, and providing music therapy in various healing facilities.

Many Waters Band perform a range of soul-touching, toe-tapping, folk-rock tunes that visit themes of dreams, romance, reflection and redemption. The group takes its name from a scripture reference where the differences of nationality and culture are transcended by a universal language of the heart, “a voice of many waters.”

The group’s song Kandahar Fields sparked print and radio media attention and has been heard in homes and schools across the country, as well as among Canadian troops serving overseas. The band can usually be found playing in local coffeehouses or at weddings and community charity events. They recently completed their first CD, Dream Rider, which can be listened to and downloaded at www.manywatersband.com.

The fundraising evening starts at 7:30 p.m. with an opening set by Judy and Bruce Wing.
