The Maranatha Players are hard at work these days rehearsing for their 15th annual musical Cinderella.
An original adaptation by Wayne Robert Scott and directed by Becky Strickland the production involves a cast of about 25 students in grades 8 to 12 at Maranatha Christian School, says producer Val Hanet.
Many, many students, staff, parents and community volunteers are involved in making the costumes and helping the students to build the sets, Hanet says.
The entrance will be transformed into an enchanted forest for the production.
Hanet says this version of Cinderella, created by LifeHouse Productions is a traditional interpretation of the timeless fable of a poor sister who finds her prince.
“This is the first time we have used this company for one of our plays,” Hanet says.
LifeHouse bills the musical as a comedy to tickle funny bones and warm hearts featuring a sparkling score, colourful costumes, and fun surprises to delight all ages.
Danielle Schultz plays Cinderella and Nathan Seibert plays her Prince Alexander.
Her Fairy Godmother is played by Maria Seibert.
Kaitlyn Jantz plays Cinderella’s stepmother and her stepsisters Croakette and Druzel are played by Michaela and Megan Jantz respectively.
Spencer Blois takes the role of the loveable and bumbling King Coriander. Brooklyn Laukkanen plays Queen Alessandra.
Hanet says Cinderella also has several animal friends, two mice named Maximilian, played by Katie Isaac and Mortimer, played by Gwenna Meyrick and a feisty lizard named Liz played by Jordan Ragan.
“This is a fun musical for the whole family,” Hanet says.
