The colour and festivities of Mardi Gras come to Surrey this weekend.

The Carnival Fiesta 2011 celebration at the Royal King Banquet Hall in Surrey is expected to attract 600 people gathering for one purpose: to party.

Based on atmosphere of New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebration, Carnival will feature a live band, parade, floats, performances, dinner, dancing and more.

The event, with the theme “What happens in Vegas…,” is presented by the Carnival Cultural Club, a non-profit, social and cultural organization founded by a group of people originally from Bombay and Goa. The purpose of the group is to unite the local community, as well as raise funds for various charitable efforts.

This year’s celebration also features a Carnival’s Got Talent competition where attendees are encouraged to showcase their abilities, whether it be singing, dancing or comedy.

The Carnival takes place March 5. Cocktails and appetizers begin at 3 p.m. and the festivities run until 12 midnight. Royal King Banquet Hall is located at 8158 128 St.

Tickets are $18-35, available by calling 604-599-8103 or 604-940-0312.
