Mat The Alien lets off one of his signature smiles. The DJ/producer is back in Vernon Friday, Dec. 23 to play 13th Floor’s sixth annual Jingle Bass event at Status Nightclub.

The boys at Vernon’s 13th Floor Entertainment are serving up an early Christmas present to those who like to party on the dance floor.

Beats, bass and some vintage sounds will be heard at the sixth annual Jingle Bass party, Friday at Status Nightclub.

“This year we are bringing Mat The Alien, a well known favourite and Shambhala regular who always delivers,” said Josh Brazier, with 13th Floor.

Mat The Alien (aka Mat Andrew) is not only known for his heavy beats and bass lines, his signature “smile” will also be on display, especially to those holding a camera or smartphone to his face.

“He’s become very well known for smiling like that, stating in the past that he’s never been a huge fan of pictures, so he figured he’d have a little fun with them,” said Brazier. “For his true fans or anyone familiar with his music, this smile  has become a very distinguishing feature, and a really good one at that.”

Since the age of 14, Mat The Alien has been mixing, scratching and making mixes that span many genres and styles.

The son of a record store owner, Mat grew up near Manchester, England and became interested in the electronic sounds that were being played in local warehouse parties in the late-’80s.

In 1995, he moved to Whistler, B.C. to pursue his new addiction, snowboarding and it’s there where he started DJing in nightclubs to international audiences.

He has since toured across the globe and performed in 14 countries, playing cities from Miami to Moscow, sporting events such as the U.S. Super Cross, Olympic Games (in Torino and Whistler), and the X Games, as well as many of Canada’s largest music festivals.

He also pioneered club nights in Whistler and Vancouver and held down a bi-weekly club night in Las Vegas at Eye Candy (Mandalay Bay).

His original music and remixes have been featured on TV shows, DVDs and webisodes and have received positive feedback and plays from some of the industry’s biggest names.

Now also touring with his video/DJ set, Mat The Alien is taking his solo act to new heights, hitting all of the senses with custom remix and video edits witnessed at Whistler’s World Ski & Snowboard Festival as well as at Salmo’s Shambhala Music Festival.

Opening for the Mat The Alien is former Vernon resident MetaphOracle, who now resides in Calgary, and Kelowna DJ Berg.

With his trumpet at his side, MetaphOracle brings his own throwback sound and smashes it into the future. Known for his diverse sets, his lifelong love affair with music has turned to lust as he continues to flourish within the ever evolving electronic music scene

Honing his tastes in B.C., the bass capital of Canada, Berg has spent the last three years opening shows for the likes of Excision, Ill Gates, Milo & Otis, What So Not, Haywyre and Bixel Boys. Recently, he has developed his sound into a blend of deep dubstep, hip hop and drum and bass.

Tickets  are available at the Downtown Internet Lounge or online at 13thfloorent.com/collections/events/products/jinglebassmta. The show is for 19-plus only.

For those from out of town, 13th Floor has a hotel deal with Vernon’s Fairfield Inn and Suites, which includes two tickets for the show. Use the promo code “13th” when reserving over the phone at (250) 260-7829.
