Max Hawk brings his hillbilly folk trio, the Raptors, to Creston to play at the Snoring Sasquatch on Sept. 29.

Since 1976, Hawk has been gracing stages, street corners and subway stations across Canada. From Toronto to Terrace, he brings his heartfelt vocals and buzz-saw guitar style to the fore, evoking a potent energy based on the power of love, folk tradition and good country music.

Backed by the Raptors, Roger Luckey and Michael Gifford, the lineup fills out into a full complement with mandolin, string bass, dobro and good harmony singing.

Gifford recently retired from “a lifetime” of teaching music in Idaho and B.C. public schools. He often performs with music groups from Nelson, Spokane and Portland as the bass player.

Luckey started off playing when he was 13. His natural love of music took him on to learn guitar, dobro, mandolin and banjo. He has been performing since the 1970s as a folk singer-songwriter, and multi instrumentalist, accompanying square dance, folk and blues acts.

Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 8. Tickets are $8 in advance at Kingfisher Used Books, Black Bear Books and the Snoring Sasquatch, and $10 at the door.
