The Mission Arts Centre Rock Family Gallery will feature the work of artist Kat Wahamaa, with a photographic exhibition called Openings.
The show runs Nov. 6-24 with an artist’s reception on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.
Known primarily as a singer-songwriter and recording artist, Wahamaa has had a long career spanning various disciplines including theatre arts, community cultural development and social justice and advocacy. However, she has been showcasing her photography more in recent years.
“In terms of the content of this show I have always been fascinated by openings,” said Wahamaa.
“Doors, windows or archways, manifest architectural detail, give history lessons and become works of art at the hand of the elements. Those openings found in nature, and those within us, suggest another way of being or perceiving. All offer an invitation.”
The photographs in this show reflect these themes with “openings” from such locales as England, Crete, Japan, Key West, Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
During the artist’s reception, Wahamaa and her musical and life partner Tony Rees will play some songs from their upcoming release Everything Blue.
