Opening Nite Theatre kicks off its new season with Ravenscroft, Don Nigro’s quirky, psychological whodunit.
This tongue-in-cheek comedy-thriller, directed by Tony Loyer, is a Gothic collision between Fawlty Towers, Agatha Christie and the film Psycho.
Inspector Ruffing is called out on a dark and snowy night to Ravenscroft Manor, where it seems the men of the house have a nasty habit of turning up dead at the bottom of the stairs.
Ruffing’s attempts to interrogate the five female suspects lead him deeper into a maze of lies, seduction, madness and hysteria, until he begins to question his own sleuthing abilities.
Thwarting red herrings at every turn, he must piece together what really happened, and to whom.
The women he encounters are the formidable cougar widow Mrs. Ravenscroft; her disturbed teenage daughter Gillian; the beautiful governess with a past, Marcy; Mrs. French, the shrewd housekeeper pushed to the brink; and Dolly, the anxious and terrified maid who keeps secrets she doesn’t understand.
But just what will the inspector do with the truth when he finds it? Ravenscroft has something for everyone – laughs, chills, intrigue, romance and twists and turns you won’t see coming.
On stage are Nate Drury, Jennifer Kennedy, Petra Atebe, Jennifer Geddes, Chelsea Banman and Mina Thomas. Ravenscroft runs Oct. 14-30 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. On Oct. 20 and 27 tickets are buy one/get one free.
