The Monashee Arts Council is preparing to promote good vibes and lend a hand to everyone wanting to tap into their inner flower child at next weekend’s Lumby Days.
“We’ve got a great lineup of flower power-themed events scheduled for this year’s Lumby Days family festival,” said Jennifer Greenwood, arts and culture program coordinator with the Monashee Arts Council. “Our members are very excited about putting this year’s theme into action in all our activities.”
A Country Flower Power Barn Dance kicks off the MAC’s list of activities this Thursday at the Whitevalley Community Hall.
“This will be a family event and admission will be by donation with all proceeds going to further MAC’s arts and cultural work in the community,” said Greenwood.
During the Lumby Days weekend, the council will host its annual Festival of the Arts at the Whitevalley Community Hall, Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15.
This year’s festival features the Monashee Weavers and Spinners giving demonstrations, The Harmonashees giving an a cappella singing performance, an art exhibition, and several vendor tables with many creative items for sale, said Greenwood, adding, “The MAC is especially excited to be bringing The Doors to Lumby Days this year.”
Not the second coming of Jim Morrison, The Doors will be a live art project in which local artists and high-profile community members will create unique pieces of art using a door panel as the canvas. All of the doors will be up for silent auction bidding.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to witness the creative process, have fun with the participants in this project, and have the chance to take a one-of-a-kind memento home with them,” said Greenwood.
