It’s cold outside, and not everybody has food.

“We always have so much good food at Christmas but some people don’t have that,” Nog Osirus of Moontricks told the Star. “So we wanted to spread a little bit of that generosity over the holidays.”

That’s why they’re hosting a local concert at Spiritbar alongside Hoola that will benefit the Nelson Food Cupboard on Boxing Day. And food cupboard community relations manager Andrew Creighton is hyped.

“We are stoked about Moontricks taking on this fundraiser because it means that young-ish people are becoming more and more aware about the plight of some people in our community and the challenges many of them face getting good food on their table,” he said.

Creighton noted that the ten most coveted food items at the food cupboard are as follows: bulk whole grains, fish, low-sugar cereals, pasta made from whole grains, almond, rice and soy beverages, canned chickpeas, peanut butters, dried fruit and raisins and gluten free products.

And if you come out to the party at 10 p.m. on Dec. 26, you’ll get to dance while you donate. Osirus said fans can expect to hear “a little banjo, some harmonica, guitar all the classic instruments you’ve seen us play in the past, along with EDM.”

Moontricks has had a busy festival season, having performed all over B.C. and at the Kaslo Jazz Etc Festival, but now they’re settling down to work on some new tunes. Rodman said they have “a handful of gems that are almost ready to be released.”

And maybe they’ll play one or two that night? Rodman said that might be a possibility.

“It’ll be a good evening to work off the Christmas good cheer,” said Rodman.

“And you may want to bring all the food you don’t want to eat any more because you’ve already has so much. Then we’ll give that all to the food cupboard.”

Financial donations are currently being accepted at foodcupboard.org.
