The Langley Community Music School is hoping a little magic from The Wizard of Oz will help the non-profit raise funds Saturday.

The school’s annual fundraising concert is March 12.

Presented as an evening of movie-based compositions, performed live by members of the school’s faculty, the bash will feature such classical works as the theme from Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List, the Por una Cabeza (By a Head of a Horse) number from Scent of a Woman, as well as I See Fire from The Hobbit and the timeless Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, among others.

Behind the musical instruments will be faculty members as pianists Marcel and Elizabeth Bergmann of the Bergmann Duo, vocalists Liana Savard and Rachel Button, harpist Miya Otake, and many more.

“Our talented faculty performers have put together an inspiring and entertaining selection of music,” said LCMS principal Susan Magnusson. “It will also support a good cause, with all proceeds going to support the school’s scholarship and bursary program.”

LCMS is an award-winning, non-profit registered charity that provides musical education to all ages and skill levels. It is one of the largest non-profit music schools in B.C.

The school hosts music concerts from October to May, including the Rose Gellert Hall Series, which is a Saturday evening show featuring musicians from Canada and abroad.

Tickets for the Music from the Movies concert cost $25 for adults and $10 for students. There is also a family pass for two parents and their kids, which costs $65.

The 7:30 p.m. concert will take place at LCMS’ Rose Gellert Hall, 4899 207th St. For more information, visit www.langleymusic.com.
