That big, blue-headed saviour of Metro City will be front and centre as the first film in Surrey’s Movies Under the Stars hits the big screen on Saturday (Aug. 3).
The animated comedy Megamind kicks off five weeks of free outdoor movies throughout August.
The movies start at dusk in Holland Park (King George Boulevard and Old Yale Road), but the public is invited to show up as early as 5 p.m. to enjoy live entertainment and other family activities in the park beforehand. The North Surrey Lions Club will host a barbecue, with proceeds benefiting local charities, and this week, magician the Great Smartini will perform at 7 p.m.
Moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, and can enter to win tickets to see Dora the Explorer at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in October.
Movies scheduled for Aug. 10, 17 and 24 are, respectively, Rise of the Guardians, Kung Fu Panda 2, and The Croods. Bollywood Under the Stars is slated for Aug. 31.
The films are presented by Prospera Credit Union and Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association. Donations to the Surrey Christmas Bureau will also be accepted on site.
