PHOTO: Revelstoke’s Mt. Begbie Brewery’s seasonal beers are an opportunity for individual brewers to shine when they get the chance to craft their own brew. This fall, brewer Tyler Papp presents his Jacked Lantern ESP – Extra Special Pumpkin. It’s based on an extra special bitter, blended with roasted DeMille’s Farm pumpkins and locally-sourced spices to create a subdued ale with a light finish. It features a medium body, a malty mouth feel with an autumn-orange amber hue. Papp selected the traditional extra special bitter as the base for its medium-hop bitterness that’s not too cloying. “I thought the lighter style would lend to an easier drinking beer,” he said. The young brewer has been at Mt. Begbie for about two years and previously worked at Brewsters Brewing Company in Alberta and Fernie Brewing Company. Meet Tyler and the rest of the Mt. Begbie crew at a release party for Jacked Lantern at the Village Idiot Restaurant on Friday, Oct. 4 from 4–8 p.m. Mt. Begbie will have their full selection out on Saturday, Oct. 5 from noon to 7 p.m. in downtown Revelstoke, where they’ll join other breweries for tastings as part of the Cornucopia Best of the Fest. — Aaron Orlando
