Rain, sleet or sun a group of nine teens gathered bottles.
They needed the cash for a deposit on the Charlie White Theatre.
They need the theatre to host Music-Aid on May 6.
Music-Aid is an independently organized group of local teens looking to raise money for music in schools.
“We kind of fell into it,” said Holly Elling Quaintance, one of the organizers behind the project.
They did a benefit concert last year to support an African project they learned of from their voice teacher.
“We had so much fun and it was a decent success, so we decided to do another one,” the Stelly’s student explained.
The high school students have spent the last four years developing their musical talent and for this second performance they chose to fundraise for music education in the Saanich School District.
“We’re all in the performing arts and music department, it affects us all,” Elling Quaintance said.
Expect a high-energy performance that steers clear of a recital feel.
“We just love what we do. We always put 110 per cent into what we’re doing,” said fellow organizer Emily Griffis.
The Archers, a Stelly’s band with a growing fan base, will anchor the performance; but expect a variety of musical genres.
Elling Quaintance and Griffis will perform My Guy followed up with the all-male Archers performing My Girl.
“It’s cheesy,” Elling Quaintance laughed.
The audience will also get a preview of a song the group of Grade 12 students hope to perform at graduation. “We’re singing a song of thanks,” Elling Quaintance said of A Thousand Suns by Hey Rosetta. “It was the first song we practiced this year.”
Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students, and include appetizers. Purchase at the box office, 250-656-0275 or online at www.marywinspear.ca.
