Music and stories for the street school by the Ganges in Comox.

An evening of music and stories will raise funds for a school for street children in Varanasi, India.

An evening of music and stories on April 29 will raise funds for a school for street children on the banks of the Ganges in Varanasi, India.

Jazz singer Jessica Morwood from Varanasi will join up with local singers Tina Filippino (letzsing), Kel Kelly, and pianist Erik Taynen to bring an evening of jazz and folk music interspersed with tales of this remarkable school.

Morwood and her husband founded Jeevan School 14 years ago in response to the need they saw. The school now has 130 students, a hostel for 40, meal program and a clinic, and they have just graduated their first student.

Morwood teaches music and kindergarten there. The school, free to the children, now has charitable status and runs on donations. Her stories about this special school are touching and inspiring and the music will be terrific.

Admission us by donation, tax receipts available. All funds go to the school and hostel.

The event is set for 7 to 9 p.m. at the Little Red Church, Comox Ave. Call 250-338-1168 for more info or check the website at basichumanneeds.org.
