Music from Avonlea: ‘Anne of Green Gables’ concert on tap at Kilby Historic Site

Three showings scheduled for Aug. 20 and 21

Music inspired by a familiar face from Avonlea is coming to Kilby.

Kilby Historic Site will be host to Anne of Green Gables: A Summer Concert, running Friday and Saturday (Aug. 20 and 21) from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and again on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. This 40-minute concert is inspired by the adventures of Anne Shirley, “Anne of Green Gables”, the beloved young red-haired orphan girl living in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island.

The concert will feature music by Norman Campbell, who adapted Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic into stage musical form. “Anne of Green Gables: The Musical” premiered at the Charlottetown Festival in 1965 and became the longest-running musical in Canadian history.

Chris Linton, museum programmer at Kilby Historic Site, said the excitement for the event is “deliciously high” for singers and musical enthusiasts alike.

Regular admission prices to the Kilby Historic Site apply. Popcorn will be available at each showing.

“Anne of Green Gables” was originally published in 1908, and it has long been considered a classic children’s novel.
