Musician brings folk on a roll

Opening up their restaurant to entertainment, the Shuswap Pie Company hosts a Vancouver Island musician Saturday.

“As rock as folk can get before it starts to roll.”

That’s how Ryan McMahon of Ladysmith, B.C. describes his music — and right now, it feels like things are really starting to roll for the 33-year-old.

McMahon, who took home awards for Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year at last year’s Vancouver Island Music Awards — is busy recording his fifth collection of songs.

McMahon will appear at the Shuswap Pie Company Saturday, April 20, sharing the space with  Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Sam Masterton.

Masterton has been playing slide guitar for 16 years and has shared stages with Jim Byrnes, 54-40, Cam Penner, the Greg Cockerill Band and Ben E. King, and he played with Vancouver-based roots band Run GMC/The Washboard Union for seven years.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $10.
