Local musicians are banding together to help raise money for experimental cancer treatment for a friend.

For the past six years, Tristin Taylor has been fighting a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma, which affects approximately one out of 100,000 children and is normally diagnosed before the age of five. Taylor was diagnosed at 16.

Neuroblastoma develops from nerve tissue and affects the nervous system and body functions and can spread to the bones, liver and skin.

Taylor believes his best chance for recovery is an experimental treatment that he cannot get in Canada. It is available in Texas, but the price tag is over $100,000.

Loran Olfert is in an Abbotsford-based Credence Clearwater Revival tribute band called VCR. He heard about Taylor’s plight through his bandmate, who is Taylor’s cousin.

Olfert and his band VCR, along with two other local acts, will be hosting a family-friendly benefit concert, outdoors at Heritage Park in Mission Sunday, July 15 to help Taylor raise funds for his medical procedure.

Blind River and Chuff are the other two groups that will be performing folk and easy rock.

The Mission Heritage Association is providing its Twilight Concert series stage for the event and there will be raffles for prizes.
